Creepy House - a photo of an old house in Akron since razed.
Thomas Reiderman began to paint in oils before age 12 with leftover paint by number paints. At Jackson Memorial High, he was the artist for the school newspaper.
In addition to painting, Tom took many photos of nature scenes at Willowdale Lake in Stark County, Ohio where he grew up. He began to seriously take photos when he was in the commercial art program at the University of Akron, Ohio , in 1986, with the acquisition of a 35 mm slr camera.
Tom's painting gave way to more simple ink, marker and colored pencil drawings. While living in Wooster in the 1970’s, he took courses at the University of Akron branch in Orrville and exhibited art on two occasions at the Wooster Community Center. Upon moving to Akron in 1983, he took more courses at the University of Akron and obtained two associate degrees in 1986: Associate of Arts and Associate of Applied Business in Commercial Art.
In 2007 Tom entered the world of digital photography with the acquisition of two Canon digital cameras. He has taken thousands of photographs, and is often called upon to record events for family and friends. He likes to find colorful and striking subjects in unusual places. Abstractions in architecture and nature appeal to Tom in particular. He is always drawn to abstract expressionistic images. Photoshop became his prime tool in digital abstraction, and he recently completed three levels of Photoshop training at the University of Akron, during 2012 and 2013.
Tom has been a member of Artists of Rubber City since 2003 (www.artistsofrubbercity.org) and has exhibited in almost all of their shows here in Akron, Ohio In November and December 2010, he had an exhibit at the Box Gallery at the Summit Artspace entitled: “Abstraction over Reality”.
